Blonde Christmas Brownies

2 c. all purpose flour
½ tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
2 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
2/3 c. shortening, melted
2 eggs, slightly beaten
2 tsp. vanilla
1 c. (6 oz.) chocolate chips
1/3 c. nuts, chopped

· Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
· Mix flour, soda, baking powder, and salt.
· Add sugar to shortening; mix well.
· Blend in eggs and vanilla.
· Add flour mixture gradually, mixing well.
· Spread in 13 x 9 in. pan.
· Sprinkle with chocolate chips and nuts.
· Bake for 30 minutes.
· Cool in pan; cut in bars.
· Makes 48.

Janis starting making the same Christmas goodies every year when her children were very small. They became family traditions. The traditions carried over, and I started making them for my own family’s Christmas celebration.
